Collegeof Electronic Science and Engineering was established in 1959 as Department of Semiconductors. The founding chairman was Prof.DingsanGao, a well-known semiconductor specialist in China and the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. As the only department entitled semiconductors in all universities in China, its focus of research and education has been on semiconductor science and technologies with solid physics and chemistry background. This unique feature is now reflected by the college facility, State Key Laboratory on Integrated Optoelectronics (in collaboration with Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences ), which has been continuously evaluated as an excellent state key lab in the nearest three 5-year national evaluations.

The college currently consists of 6 departments (microelectronic science and engineering, optoelectronic science and engineering, sensing science and engineering, electronic information science and technology, electronic information engineering, and biomedical engineering) and two experimental centers for undergraduate students.Thereare177faculty members and staff working in the college, including62 professors,40associate professors,27 lecturers, 28 experimental technicians and 20 administrative staff.They are working as editors/advisory board members of more than 10 internationally and nationally well-known journals such as Optics Letters, Nanoscale, Light Science and Applications, and Science Bulletin.

The college ranks basically among top-ten in various research and comprehensive evaluations on electronic science and technologies, and its rapid progressing in recent years is particularly eye-catching.
